Airlangga Reveals One-Day WFH Policy to Take Effect Soon, When Does It Start?
The government has confirmed that a one-day work-from-home (WFH) policy as a step towards fuel oil (BBM) efficiency will be announced shortly. This policy is being prepared in response to the impact of conflicts in the Middle East region that have triggered a surge in energy prices.
Quoted from detikNews, Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that the determination of the WFH day was decided this week. He mentioned that the official announcement will not pass the end of March 2026.
“Basically, it has been set this week. As soon as possible, right, how many days are left this month. So there’s still time,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto after accompanying President Prabowo Subianto in receiving US entrepreneur Ray Dalio at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Friday (27/3/2026).
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has not said much about WFH. Purbaya said Prabowo is continuously monitoring the developments of the WFH day discussion.
“WFH is already, right, the President is monitoring it directly like that. This will be announced shortly by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy,” he said.
On the other hand, Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR, Aria Bima, previously viewed the one-day WFH policy per week as good for energy savings. However, he sees the policy as only short-term and should not be made the sole solution.
“This idea can be considered good as a short-term tactical step, but it should not be treated as the single solution to the problem of high oil prices,” said Aria Bima when contacted, Friday (27/3).
The PDIP legislator understands that the government is currently examining a flexible work scheme of one day in five working days for civil servants (ASN), private sector, and regional governments as a response to the surge in world oil prices. At the same time, he said, oil price conditions are indeed experiencing sharp fluctuations due to the war initiated by the US and Israel against Iran.
