Airlangga Responds to Perry Warjiyo's Resignation as Bank Indonesia Governor

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has spoken out regarding the resignation of Perry Warjiyo as Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI). Airlangga stated that the decision to step down was conveyed by Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti, who has now assumed the role of acting Governor of BI.

“It was conveyed earlier by Mrs. Destry, who is now acting as the temporary Governor of BI,” Airlangga said when met by journalists at his office on Monday (27/7/2026).

Regarding market volatility following the resignation, Airlangga said conditions remain relatively stable, provided BI continues to implement its policies to maintain the stability of the rupiah. “The important thing is the institution, and the BI institution continues to carry out its function of maintaining the exchange rate and monetary stability,” he continued.

When asked whether he had been informed of a candidate to replace Perry, Airlangga said he was still waiting for a decision from President Prabowo Subianto. “We will just wait and see,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Perry Warjiyo officially resigned as Governor of Bank Indonesia. The position is temporarily held by Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti. Destry stated that Perry Warjiyo voluntarily resigned for personal reasons on 25 July 2026, in accordance with Article 48 paragraph 1 (a) of Law Number 23 of 1999 concerning Bank Indonesia, as last amended by Law Number 4 of 2026 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector. Destry did not elaborate on the personal reasons cited by Perry, but a source told CNBC Indonesia that the resignation was due to health issues.
