Airlangga Hartarto, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, told President Prabowo Subianto about the readiness of the governance framework for the export of natural resource commodities to be operated by PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) starting 1 June 2026. He noted there are two main items discussed in the report to the President: the implementation of the Devisa Hasil Ekspor (foreign exchange earnings from exports) policy, and the export mechanism for DSI’s strategic commodities.

‘I have just briefed the President on two elements of the plan: the immediate implementation of the foreign exchange earnings from exports policy, effective from 1 June, and the execution of exports of crude palm oil (CPO), coal, and ferroalloys by DSI,’ Airlangga said at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, on Thursday 21 May 2026.

He said the government is preparing a range of regulatory instruments to support the policy’s implementation. The regulations involve several ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Trade, Bank Indonesia, and the Ministry of Finance.

Airlangga assured that all supporting rules are targeted to be completed before the policy is applied on 1 June 2026. In addition to drafting regulations, the government will also carry out outreach to associations of business actors involved in the commodity export sector.

‘Second, outreach to the associations will also be conducted this afternoon at 16:00 WIB, so that the relevant associations are aware of the policies the government is formulating,’ Airlangga said.

The government previously established PT DSI as a company with a special mandate to manage and oversee transactions of strategic natural resource commodity exports.

DSI will operate in two phases. In the first phase, from 1 June to 31 December 2026, DSI will act as an appraiser and intermediary between sellers and buyers of certain export commodities.

From January 2027 onwards, DSI will transform into a trading company that buys commodities directly from exporters, holds the goods, and bears the trading risks before selling them to the international market.

The proceeds from the sale of these commodities will be received in foreign currencies according to the destination country of the transaction, while continuing to follow international trade practices. The proceeds will be returned entirely to Indonesia.
