Airlangga Raises MSME Financing Target to Rp 2,000 Trillion
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has raised the target for micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) financing to Rp 2,000 trillion, as part of efforts to boost national credit disbursement. This target is now a task for the Ministry of MSMEs under the leadership of Maman Abdurrahman. Airlangga noted that total MSME credit disbursement currently stands at approximately Rp 1,500 trillion for 9,000 MSMEs. Ideally, the credit portion for MSMEs of that number should reach 30 percent, or the equivalent of Rp 3,000 trillion of total banking credit. To be more realistic, Airlangga asked Maman to achieve Rp 2,000 trillion. “Jumping from Rp 1,500 trillion to Rp 3,000 trillion is a 100 percent increase. So, how about we lower it to Rp 2,000 trillion for Mr Maman. This is what I want to convey at the Summit: increase it to Rp 2,000,” Airlangga said at the UMKM Finance Summit 2026 in South Jakarta on Tuesday. He expressed hope that the increase from the current position of Rp 1,500 trillion to Rp 2,000 trillion would expand access to financing, especially for business actors who have not yet obtained adequate financing. “This step is important to fill the financing gap for MSMEs that have the potential to develop and upgrade,” he said. In addition to increasing credit disbursement, Airlangga also conveyed the need for MSMEs to develop and strengthen their businesses. He hopes that the increase in the financing target can go hand in hand with strengthening the ecosystem and digitalisation so that MSMEs not only receive funding but also upgrade. He encouraged Indonesian MSMEs to learn from India in strengthening production while maintaining market access. According to him, the ability to maintain markets is one of the important factors that has made Indian MSMEs successful as a base for the national economy. According to data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK), as of June 2026, MSME credit reached Rp 1,519.1 trillion, growing 1.05 percent year-on-year (yoy). This growth was higher than the credit growth in May 2026 of 0.6 percent, and even higher than previous periods which had experienced negative growth.
