Jakarta — Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has projected that Indonesia will become one of the five largest economies in the world by 2050.

In the near term, he expressed optimism that the Indonesian economy can grow by approximately 5.4 per cent in 2026. He assessed that the fundamental strength of the domestic economy remains robust, as evidenced by a trade surplus that has been sustained for 69 consecutive months through the beginning of this year.

“We are also accelerating the Indonesia Incorporated strategy, which represents a synergy between the government, the business sector, and all elements of the nation to achieve shared development goals,” Airlangga stated at the Tokyo Conference 2026, as quoted in Jakarta on Wednesday.

For this reason, Indonesia is deemed ready to strengthen cooperation with various partners in the region to maintain global economic resilience.

Asia is projected to contribute approximately 52 per cent of global GDP by 2050, meaning that within less than 25 years, Asia will play an increasingly significant role in the global economy.

“If Asia remains committed to open cooperation and rejects zero-sum competition, then 2050 can become the Asian century,” Airlangga said.

According to his projections, China will be Asia’s largest economy with a GDP of nearly $58 trillion by 2050, followed by India with GDP of approximately $44 trillion. Indonesia is estimated to occupy third position with a GDP of around $10 to 11 trillion.
