Airlangga: MBG Distribution to Become 5 Days a Week, Saving the State Rp20 Trillion
Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that the government is optimising the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. He noted that the programme will continue to operate, but distribution will be limited to five days per week. “The government is promoting the optimisation of the MBG programme, directing it towards fresh meals five days a week,” Airlangga said during a press conference on Tuesday, 31 March 2026. “And it will still consider exceptions such as for dormitories, 3T areas, and regions with high stunting rates,” he added. Airlangga highlighted that the potential budget savings from this policy are substantial, amounting to Rp20 trillion. “The potential savings from this activity reach Rp20 trillion,” he stated. Furthermore, Airlangga emphasised that this policy is established as part of structural transformations towards a more efficient, productive, and resilient economy. “The government invites all of society and the business world to remain productive, participate actively, and support this efficiency transformation in work culture,” Airlangga concluded.
