Airlangga Invites ByteDance and Huawei to Strengthen Indonesia's Digital Transformation

In a meeting with ByteDance, Airlangga appreciated the company’s strategic investment and long-term commitment in Indonesia, particularly through Tokopedia and TikTok Shop, which have advanced the digital trade ecosystem. He noted that ByteDance’s presence not only strengthens the digital economy but also opens opportunities for millions of MSMEs to grow through digital platforms and cross-border trade. The government is encouraging expanded collaboration to support the internationalisation of Indonesian MSME products, enabling them to reach a wider global market. Airlangga stated that Indonesia offers a large digital market, growing digital talent, and a strong commitment to building an inclusive AI ecosystem, inviting ByteDance to explore establishing an AI research centre, developing digital talent, and fostering innovation collaboration beneficial to both nations. During a separate meeting with Huawei, Airlangga highlighted the company as a strategic partner capable of supporting Indonesia’s digital transformation. Discussions covered four key areas: investment in AI and cloud infrastructure, strengthening the digital talent ecosystem and cybersecurity, accelerating the digitalisation of government and MSMEs, and implementing green energy solutions in data centres. With Indonesia officially becoming a founding member of WAICO, Airlangga emphasised the need for a tangible leap in technology cooperation, positioning Huawei as a potential strategic partner to support national digital transformation. The partnerships with Huawei and ByteDance, along with Indonesia’s participation in WAICO, are expected to accelerate technology transfer, bridge the global technology gap, and create a more productive and competitive national digital economy ecosystem.
