Airlangga: Government to Keep Airfare Increases in the 9%-13% Range
The government has assured that it will control airfare prices in response to the increase in avtur prices. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto confirmed this during a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy office in Central Jakarta on Monday (6/4/2026).
According to Airlangga, the avtur price at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport as of 1 April 2026 has reached Rp 23,551 per litre. This price increase affects the operational cost structure of national airlines, where avtur contributes 40% to aircraft operations.
“Therefore, the government is preparing strategic mitigation measures to ensure that tickets remain affordable for the public. So, what the government is safeguarding is the ticket prices,” Airlangga stated.
He explained that the Ministry of Transportation, on behalf of the government, has raised the fuel surcharge by 10% compared to the 2019 tariff ceiling figure.
“And then it is further adjusted to 38%, which applies equally to both jets and propellers. Previously, jets were only 10%, and propellers 25%. Now, everything is adjusted to 38%,” Airlangga said.
“To keep the increase in domestic ticket prices affordable for the public, the government is maintaining the ticket price increase in the range of 9%-13%,” he continued.
Furthermore, Airlangga stated that the government is implementing several policies to control the ticket price increase, where the VAT on scheduled commercial air transport tickets for domestic economy class is borne by the government at 11%.
“With that calculation, the subsidy amount we provide is Rp 1.3 trillion per month. We are preparing for two months, so this is Rp 2.6 trillion to ensure maximum ticket prices of 9%-13%,” Airlangga said.
He also revealed that the policy will be implemented in accordance with the policy package programme enacted some time ago.
“Thus, we will continue to evaluate whether geopolitics or the war in the Middle East is still ongoing,” Airlangga remarked.
