Airlangga: EV incentives to be linked with national car programme

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the government is considering linking electric vehicle (EV) incentives to the national car and motorcycle development programme. “We will see, it will be linked to the national car or national motorcycle programme,” Airlangga said in Jakarta on Monday.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa previously revealed that the government is preparing EV incentives targeting 100,000 electric cars and 100,000 electric motorcycles this year. For electric motorcycles, Purbaya estimated the incentive value at Rp5 million per unit, while the subsidy amount for electric cars remains undecided.

Based on data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), sales of battery electric vehicles (BEV) in the first quarter of 2026 reached 33,150 units, a 95.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the electric motorcycle population as of February 2026 was recorded at 236,451 units, representing approximately 65 percent of the total national electric vehicle population.
