Airlangga Confirms Government Has Candidate for PFII Governor, Awaits Institutional Formation
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has stated that the government already has a name in hand for the Governor of the Indonesian International Financial Centre (PFII).
However, he would only say that the candidate will come from within the government, without providing further details.
“The candidate already exists, from within the government,” Airlangga said in Jakarta on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.
Airlangga explained that the establishment of the PFII is the main stage before its management is appointed, so the process of naming the governor and the organisational structure cannot yet be announced to the public in the near term.
Nevertheless, Airlangga assured that the government has prepared a candidate for PFII Governor as part of the institution’s operational preparations once the entire institutional formation process is completed as planned.
When asked about the candidate’s identity, Airlangga was not yet willing to reveal the name in question. However, he confirmed that the figure comes from government circles and will be announced in due course.
Airlangga stressed that the official announcement regarding the governor candidate and the PFII’s institutional structure will be made after all stages of the institution’s formation are completed in accordance with the mechanism prepared by the government.
Beyond discussing leadership, Airlangga revealed that the government is also still finalising the PFII’s operational location, considering a number of alternatives deemed strategic to support the institution’s functions.
According to him, one of the locations under consideration is in an area owned by InJourney near I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali. Jakarta is also included among the initial options.
The government is still assessing the best location and therefore cannot yet confirm whether the Danareksa area in Jakarta or another site will be chosen as the institution’s office.
Airlangga said all decisions regarding the PFII’s leadership and location will be determined after the institution is officially formed so that the transition process can proceed in accordance with applicable regulations.
“One of the options being considered is the InJourney area in Bali, near the airport. But for the initial period, Jakarta is also being considered. It will be confirmed after it is formed,” he said.
Meanwhile, regarding the announcement schedule, Airlangga signalled that the public should await President Prabowo Subianto’s speech on the Financial Note on 14 August 2026.
“On the 14th (of August), listen to the President’s speech,” he said.
