The gold exchange-traded fund (ETF) investment instrument recently launched by the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) has been described by Trimegah Asset Management CEO Antony Dirga as a new asset class that could provide fresh investment opportunities for both retail and institutional investors in Indonesia’s capital market.

In the long term, gold ETFs have significant growth potential in Indonesia’s capital market. According to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesia’s gold ETF could even compete with the markets in India and Singapore. However, education and outreach to investors regarding the potential and risks of gold ETFs are still needed.

Antony Dirga noted that the development of capital market investments, including gold ETF instruments, still requires optimisation, given that Indonesia’s assets under management (AUM) to GDP ratio stands at just 4.5%, far below Malaysia and Thailand. Additionally, gold ETFs are expected to attract new investors to this new instrument.

What are the challenges and opportunities for developing Indonesia’s gold ETF? Watch the full discussion between Shania Alatas and Trimegah Asset Management CEO Antony Dirga on Regional Power Lunch, CNBC Indonesia (Wednesday, 12/08/2026).
