Airlangga Claims Pertalite and Biodiesel Supply Secure Until Year-End

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has claimed that the supply of Pertalite and biodiesel in Indonesia is secure until the end of the year, despite global conflicts affecting world oil supply and prices. He explained that the purchase price for Indonesia is still averaging around USD 91 per barrel, a price he expects to remain relatively stable through the end of the year. “It is relatively stable until the end of the year, at least Pertalite and biodiesel are safe,” Airlangga said after attending the 2026 Indonesian Issuers Association (AEI) Members’ Meeting in Jakarta, Tuesday (11/8). The ongoing wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, coupled with tensions in the Strait of Hormuz region, have created uncertainty in global oil prices. Airlangga noted that prices have even exceeded USD 110 per barrel. “We always observe that if the oil price goes above 110 (USD per barrel), there is usually a ceasefire,” he said. Airlangga explained that the government is still purchasing oil at an average price of around USD 91 per barrel, ensuring that Pertalite and biodiesel supplies are maintained until the end of the year. He added that national energy stability can thus be preserved amid global uncertainty. Beyond fuel, Airlangga stated that the national electricity supply is also relatively secure, as most power plants rely on domestic coal. This dependence on coal as a primary energy source means Indonesia has not experienced a surge in electricity generation costs. He also noted that Indonesia’s oil supply comes via Singapore through the Strait of Malacca, avoiding reliance on shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz, a supply structure that helps mitigate the impact of geopolitical turmoil.
