Airlangga Claims Indonesia's Economy Remains Strong
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that Indonesia’s economy is generally in good condition. According to him, the national economic growth achievement in Q4 2025 positions Indonesia advantageously among G20 member countries.
“It is only lower than India, which recorded economic growth of 7.40 per cent in the same period,” said Airlangga in a written statement on Thursday, 9 April 2026.
Airlangga said Indonesia’s economic growth in that period was recorded at 5.39 per cent, making it the second highest among G20 countries. He has conveyed this data to President Prabowo Subianto. Moreover, according to him, domestic consumption remains the main pillar of the economy, contributing 54 per cent to gross domestic product.
Airlangga mentioned that rice production throughout 2025 reached 34.7 million tonnes, with Bulog’s stock as of 8 April 2026 amounting to 4.6 million tonnes. He also noted that amid the conflict in the Middle East, there is potential for a two-week pause in global commodity price developments due to the delay in the US attack on Iran.
According to him, this situation has led to a decline in world crude oil prices, with West Texas Intermediate dropping to US$96.7 per barrel and Brent crude to US$95.23 per barrel.
From the fiscal side, he stated that APBN performance up to the end of the first quarter of 2026 shows tax receipts increasing by 14.3 per cent to Rp 462.7 trillion. He also mentioned that the manufacturing PMI in March 2026 was at an expansive level of 50.1.
Airlangga stated that the government is preparing strategic policies to maintain economic stability, one of which is the implementation of the B50 biodiesel programme, which he believes can generate budget savings of Rp 48 trillion starting from 1 July.
He also conveyed the government’s commitment to maintaining fiscal discipline. According to him, President Prabowo emphasised that the debt ratio will be kept around 40 per cent, even though the law allows up to 60 per cent. The budget deficit, he said, will also be maintained at 3 per cent until the end of the year.
