Airgun Seller in North Jakarta's Priok Rakes in Hundreds of Millions, Police Hunt Supplier

A man with the initials MF, also known as B, has been arrested for his involvement in the illegal sale of airguns since 2023, generating profits of hundreds of millions of rupiah in the Tanjung Priok area of North Jakarta. Police are now hunting for the supplier who provided the airguns to MF.

‘Based on the suspect’s statement and the results of our interrogation, the suspect has been carrying out this activity since 2023, and the profit obtained from sales ranges from Rp 2 million to Rp 5 million per unit,’ said Tanjung Priok Port Police Chief AKBP Aris Wibowo to reporters on Friday (26/6/2026). ‘So, during the time the suspect was conducting this activity, he admitted to making a profit of around Rp 100 to 200 million,’ he added.

Aris stated that the suspect is charged under Article 306 of the Criminal Code concerning the unauthorised manufacture, receipt, acquisition, transfer, possession, carrying, storage, transportation or use of firearms, ammunition, explosives or other dangerous materials. The offence carries a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.

Aris further noted that in addition to selling airguns, MF also possessed the skill to assemble the weapons. However, police have not yet been able to identify the supplier. ‘We have not yet been able to find out who the supplier to the suspect is because the suspect is very tight-lipped, possibly protecting other parties who own or supply the weapons to him,’ he said.

MF was previously arrested with dozens of illegal airguns as evidence. Police apprehended the suspect after an undercover operation. ‘Officers conducted an investigation and an undercover buy, eventually securing a suspect who was about to conduct a transaction in the Tanjung Priok Port area,’ a statement from the Tanjung Priok Port Police read on Thursday (25/6).

Undercover officers ordered a black WG 321 non-blowback 6mm calibre CO2-powered airgun. On Wednesday (6/5), police re-established communication and agreed to conduct a direct transaction at a predetermined location on Jalan Panaitan, Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta. The suspect arrived at the agreed location for the transaction on Wednesday (6/5) evening at 9pm local time, where officers immediately arrested MF.

During a search, an airgun was found in the suspect’s possession. Police later discovered additional evidence at the suspect’s rented accommodation in the Jati Cempaka area of Pondok Gede, Bekasi City. The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tanjung Priok Port Police arrested MF after receiving a tip-off from the public about the trade of airsoft guns via the WhatsApp messaging application on Tuesday (5/5). Police seized other airgun-related components that MF was trading. ‘As a result of the development, officers managed to secure 22 airguns, 88 packs of steel pellets (gotri), 26 magazines, and 300 boxes of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas canisters,’ he said.
