AirAsia Reportedly Halts Direct Jakarta-Singapore Flights
AirAsia is reportedly set to discontinue direct flights between Singapore and Jakarta starting in July 2026, as indicated on the airline’s website. Indonesia AirAsia, the group’s Indonesian subsidiary, previously operated a daily Singapore-Jakarta service, departing the capital as flight QZ 264 and returning as QZ 265. Although the flight was scheduled to operate on Tuesday, it no longer appears in the flight status section of the AirAsia website. Direct AirAsia flights between Singapore and Jakarta are also no longer available for booking on the carrier’s site, with only flights transiting through Kuala Lumpur being offered. Customers previously reported that their direct flights between Singapore and Jakarta had been rerouted via the Malaysian capital. Indonesia AirAsia has also suspended dozens of other flights, according to the AirAsia website. These include direct services between Singapore and Bali, which have been marked with a note stating ‘moved to Fly-Thru via KUL’ on the AirAsia site, referring to Kuala Lumpur. A local aviation analyst assessed that the termination of both direct services is permanent, citing a LinkedIn post stating that ‘Indonesia AirAsia has exited Singapore after 17 years of operations’. AirAsia X group CEO Bo Lingam said last week that the group is now optimising its network by reallocating capacity to better-performing routes. The company is also leveraging its Fly-Thru connectivity through Kuala Lumpur and other available hubs to capture demand more efficiently. ‘We continue to monitor developments closely and are actively assessing our flight schedules based on market conditions and evolving demand patterns, with necessary cancellations or temporary suspensions to be implemented carefully to support long-term network sustainability while minimising disruption to our guests,’ he said. All affected passengers will be promptly notified and provided with service recovery options to manage their travel plans.
