Air Asia launched Tuesday its new international route from Bali to Perth, Australia – the airline’s fifth international destination from Bali after Kuala Lumpur, Johor Baru, Bangkok and Singapore.

"Bali is the driving force behind Indonesia's tourist economy and this service is to support the government’s aim to boost tourism in Indonesian," chief executive officer of Air Asia Indonesia Dharmandi told journalists during the new route launching in Jakarta.

He said more than 204,000 Australian tourists arrived in 2007, 12.3 percent of the total number of international visitors to Bali.

Dharmadi said that as well as tourists, the new route would attract Indonesian students, of which there are approximately 20,000 studying in various part of Australia.

For the promotion of its new Bali- Perth route, the airline is offering free seats for the travel period from July 17, 2009 until January 31, 2010. (naf)
