Air strikes hit Iran’s capital, Tehran, in the early hours of Saturday (7 March 2026). One of the attacks targeted an airport in Tehran. According to detikSport, a video circulating on social media shows a blaze at one of the attack points. CNN tracking indicated the blaze location was Mehrabad Airport in Tehran.

State television in Iran reported explosions and smoke visible in the eastern and western parts of Tehran. Earlier, the Israeli military announced that it was conducting a new wave of attacks against Tehran. Israel described the strikes as large in scale. Meanwhile, Iran also launched an attack on Tel Aviv.

‘IDF has begun a wave of large-scale attacks (against government targets in the capital of Iran),’ the Israeli military said on Saturday.

Trump Says Ground Invasion a Waste of Time

Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump said deploying U.S. ground forces into Iran would be a waste of time. Trump said Iran had lost everything – their navy, and everything else they could lose. He told NBC on Friday (6 March) that Iran had lost everything they could lose. He characterised Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi’s comments as futile and indicated he wanted to see the leadership of Iran removed. He claimed to have a proposal for a new Iran leader. Trump had previously said he should be involved in appointing Iran’s next leader after the U.S.-Israel strikes that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran Not Fearful of Ground Invasion by US-Israel

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said he was not afraid if the US and Israel carried out a ground invasion. Araghchi firmly rejected the notion that Iran fears a potential US ground invasion, as suggested by Trump.

‘No, we are waiting for them,’ Araghchi said when asked if he feared a possible US ground invasion. He said a ground invasion would be a major catastrophe for the US. Iran, he emphasised, is ready to face the US-Israel.

Araghchi also addressed the US-Israel attacks on an elementary school in Minab, southern Iran, which reportedly killed 171 children. He placed full responsibility on the US and Israeli militaries. He also expressed deep disappointment with negotiations with the US. According to Araghchi, the current US administration has betrayed repeatedly.
