Air Conditioning Systems Continue to Adapt to Green Building Developments
Two air conditioning systems for commercial buildings, the VRV 6X and VRV 6A, have achieved the Green Label Indonesia certificate with the highest rating, Platinum. The certification was issued by the Green Product Council Indonesia (GPCI), a non-profit organisation focused on developing standards for environmentally friendly products.
Vice President Director of PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia Budi Mulia said the achievement reflects the company’s commitment to promoting the use of more energy-efficient air conditioning technology with a lower environmental impact.
“This green certificate with the highest rating represents Daikin’s commitment to efforts to reduce the carbon footprint in Indonesia. It is achieved through innovation in energy-efficient and environmentally friendly HVAC systems to support the growth of green buildings,” said Budi.
Green Label Indonesia is an environmental certification awarded to various products, including building materials, interiors, building equipment and other supporting products. The certification serves as a reference for identifying products that meet environmental standards based on an assessment process involving experts and professional auditors.
In the certification process, GPCI assessed a number of aspects, ranging from materials and product quality, manufacturing processes, environmental and waste management, to the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
EPR is an environmental policy approach that places producer responsibility for a product not only at the production stage, but also throughout its life cycle.
Based on the verification results across all these aspects, the VRV 6X and VRV 6A achieved a perfect score of 100%. This achievement earned both products the Platinum rating, the highest level in the Green Label Indonesia certification.
The certification is also the first issued by GPCI for the VRV air conditioning system category. The introduction of this category was made possible by Daikin’s involvement as one of the initiators in developing specific assessment criteria for VRV air conditioning products together with GPCI.
According to Budi, the existence of specific environmental standards for commercial air conditioning systems can provide clearer guidance for industry players in selecting products that meet sustainability aspects.
“The push for a green certificate for commercial air conditioning from a trusted independent institution is important to provide ease and certainty for various parties in the industry to obtain environmentally friendly products,” he said.
Furthermore, Budi said the certification achievement is part of the company’s efforts to encourage the manufacturing industry to adopt more sustainable technology. Daikin also stated it will continue to support the Indonesian government’s efforts to achieve the net zero emission target.
The company has set a target of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Through the development of more efficient and environmentally friendly air conditioning technology, Daikin hopes to contribute to emission reductions while supporting the growth of green buildings in Indonesia.
