Ainaro regent in corruption probe

DILI, East Timor: Ainaro Regent Norberto de Araujo is to be questioned by the provincial prosecutor's office over corruption allegations, a local official said on Wednesday.

East Timor chief prosecutor Pontas Pasaribu said the questioning was based on an instruction from the Attorney General's Office dated Oct. 7.

Pontas added the questioning would take place in the Attorney General's Office in Jakarta since Norberto was still attending a course in the capital.

Norberto was allegedly involved in corrupt practices during his tenure that began in 1994. (33)
