Jakarta (ANTARA) - AiMOGA Robotics has presented its latest technological advancement: the development of a wheelchair that enables users to control movement using only signals from their brains.

Xie Yuyang, Head of Brain-Computer Interface at AiMOGA Robotics, stated that this technology is implemented through AiMOGA BCI, which integrates a brain-computer interface (BCI), artificial intelligence (AI), and a robotic motion control system.

“Our initial goal in developing this product is to provide ease and open up more possibilities for those with high-level paraplegia, stroke survivors, and individuals with other mobility impairments,” Xie Yuyang said in an official statement on Thursday.

The technology featured in the AiMOG BCI utilises non-invasive electroencephalography (EEG) devices with eight channels to capture electrical brain activity. Users simply need to focus their attention on directional commands displayed on a screen to move the wheelchair.

The system recognises these brain signal patterns and translates them into commands such as forward, backward, left, right, and stop. AiMOGA claims that the system in this robot achieves an EEG command recognition accuracy of over 95 per cent, with a recognition latency of less than three seconds.

This technology is intended for users experiencing limited movement in their hands or other limbs, but who still retain the ability to understand instructions. Consequently, the operation of the wheelchair does not rely entirely on physical control using the hands.

The wheelchair also includes several other control options, such as a touchscreen, an emergency stop button, and manual override capabilities. These features allow the system to be used in various conditions while providing an additional layer of safety.

Due to its advanced intelligence, AiMOGA Robotics secured first place in the “Mind-Driven Wheelchair Challenge” category at the Global Brain-Computer Interface × Medical Insurance Innovation Scenario Competition 2026 held in Hangzhou, China. The AiMOGA BCI completed the course in 2 minutes and 16 seconds, leading the second-place finisher by 17 seconds.

In this category, participants used EEG (electroencephalography) signal recording devices to control wheelchairs using their brains to navigate a predetermined course.
