Aiming to Master Digital Space, Djamari: We Cannot Hand This Nation Over to Pessimists

The Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, General (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago, stated that the current digital landscape holds a strategic position in shaping public opinion, ways of thinking, and the character of society. Consequently, he wants the government to master the digital space to possess the capability to manage the flow of information.

This was stated by Djamundari during the Coordination Forum of the Public Relations Coordination Body (Bakohumas) held by the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs at Graha Marinir Panti Perwira, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (1/9/2026). The forum aims to build a shared perception and strengthen cross-sector coordination in managing government public communications amidst the rise of disinformation, slander, and hate (DFK).

“The digital battlefield today is very strategic. I liken it to the Field of Kurukshetra or a very large battlefield. I also call the digital space a field of criticism; whoever can master it will win the battle. If we do not master it, it will be mastered by others for specific purposes,” said Djamari on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

Djamari warned that disinformation, slander, hate, negative narratives, harsh language, and indecent content are widely circulating on social media. Such conditions have the potential to have a long-term impact on the mindset and character of the community.

“Social media greatly influences the public’s mind. What is in the mind will influence what we do, and what we continuously do will shape character. We must not be careless so that the character of this nation does not change into being weak, easily defeated, and pessimistic. We cannot hand this nation over to pessimistic people,” Djamari added.
