AIDS/HIV cases could reach 32,400

JAKARTA (JP): The number of people with HIV and AIDS could reach 32,400 in Jakarta, according to a city official.

Antara quoted Deputy Governor for Social Affairs R.S. Museno as saying that despite an official 162 cases in Jakarta, many cases were undetected.

"The number could reach as high as 200 times the number of reported cases," he said Friday.

Since February this year, 517 HIV/AIDS cases have been reported in the country. (anr)
