AIDS patient dies
RIAU, Pekanbaru: An Indonesian worker who once worked
illegally in Malaysia died of AIDS last week, Antara, quoting a
local health official, reported yesterday.
The victim, identified only as AN, was believed to have
contracted the deadly disease before his deportation from
Malaysia to Riau through Dumai, the province's famous seaport.
The health official said the victim was not registered among
the 28 HIV-carrier patients already treated in the provincial
hospital.
Data on the number of AIDS patients was obtained through a
survey of prostitutes operating in neighboring areas like
Pakanbaru and Batam, both of which are experiencing strong
economic growth. (03)
