AIDS kills six in West Java

BANDUNG, West Java: Six people have died of Acquired Immune
Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) throughout the province over the past
five years.

Health officials have registered another 13 people infected
with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus that causes AIDS, the chief
of the provincial health office, Haikin Rahmat, said on Monday.

One of those tested HIV positive was a prostitute who recently
gave birth. "They are being closely monitored," he said during a
briefing of local officials, including Governor R. Nuriana.

The 19 virus carriers live in nine regencies, including
Bandung, Indramayu and Karawang, Antara reported. (pan)
