AIDS activist dies of lymphoma
INDONESIA: After fighting lymphoma for many months, AIDS
activist Suzana Murni died at her home in South Jakarta at around
2:15 a.m. on Saturday.
She was 30 years old and is survived by her husband and an
adopted son. Her body was buried in Kampung Kandang cemetery,
Pangkalan Jati, South Jakarta, on Saturday afternoon.
Suzana was diagnosed HIV positive in 1995, and then
established the Spiritia Foundation in the same year, as a peer
support group for people with HIV and AIDS in Indonesia.
She has since been a speaker at many international AIDS
conferences.
While in Melbourne to attend an International Congress on AIDS
in Asia and the Pacific last year, she was diagnosed with
lymphoma, a cancer that affects about three percent of people
with AIDS. -- JP
