Aid for NTT Earthquake Victims Distributed via Land and Sea Routes

Humanitarian aid for communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) continues to be distributed via land and sea routes. The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) is delivering assistance by land in Manggarai and by sea using a humanitarian vessel.

Drinking water supplies had previously been distributed to affected communities in Langke Rembong District, Manggarai Regency. Distribution was then expanded to several coastal areas through the humanitarian vessel, a collaboration between PMI and Kalla Lines, which departed on Saturday (22/8).

Support includes a donation of Rp1 billion from Danone Indonesia, around 53,000 bottles of drinking water, and nutritional products. Part of the aid has been dispatched since Saturday (22/8) and is being distributed based on PMI’s identification of community needs.

The donation is being used to meet the needs of affected communities as identified by PMI. This mechanism allows the form of assistance to be adjusted to the conditions and needs of residents in the affected areas.

PMI Chairman Jusuf Kalla said cross-sector collaboration is necessary to ensure the basic needs of disaster-affected communities are met.

“At present the assistance is more in the form of cash funds, and this is not the first time for Danone Indonesia but already the sixth time. Every time a disaster occurs, Danone Indonesia is always present to contribute,” said Jusuf Kalla in a statement quoted on Saturday (29/8/2026).

Meanwhile, Danone Indonesia CEO Laurent Boissier said distribution through PMI was chosen because the organisation has humanitarian experience and networks to identify the needs of affected communities.

“PMI has extensive experience, networks, and humanitarian capacity, including in identifying the needs of affected communities,” he said.

PMI and relevant parties are still coordinating with local governments to adjust aid distribution to the evolving needs of affected communities.
