Aid for Aceh flood victims

JAKARTA (JP): The Aceh community here has donated Rp 500
million (US$217,400) to victims of the major floods which hit 17
districts in North and East Aceh last month.

The money was donated by Minister of Food Ibrahim Hasan on
Saturday to North Aceh regent Kaimuddin Hasybullah, East Aceh
regent Alauddin A.E and deputy governor of Aceh Zainuddin A.G. at
Polonia airport in Medan, North Sumatra.

The donation was divided into Rp 200 million for North Aceh
and Rp 300 million for East Aceh.

Minister Ibrahim Hasan during a tour of the disaster sites
urged residents to face the tragedy with strength and without
recriminations.

Apart from material damages, the floods also killed 18 people.
The floods were said to be province's worst in 60 years.

As quoted by Antara, Ibrahim said that the government would
help reconstruct the houses and other facilities damaged.(mds)
