AI Training Provided to Teachers to Strengthen Digital Literacy in Schools
The readiness of teaching staff to utilise artificial intelligence (AI) is considered a crucial foundation for producing future digital talent. Responding to this need, the Kader Bangsa Indonesia Education Foundation (YPKBI) together with Amazon Web Services (AWS) held the culmination of the IndonesiapandAI Programme, a free training session on cloud computing and generative AI aimed at teachers in YPKBI-affiliated schools.
The programme, which took place in Jakarta, marked the completion of intensive, practice-based training for teachers from five leading schools. Participants not only learned about the application of generative AI but also had the opportunity to take the international AWS Certified AI Practitioner certification to strengthen their digital competence.
The five participating schools included SMA Al Hikmah Boarding School in Batu, East Java; MAN Insan Cendekia Serpong in South Tangerang; SMA Global Darussalam Academy in Sleman; SMA Kemala Taruna Bhayangkara in Bogor Regency; and SMAN 1 Matauli Pandan in Central Tapanuli.
Founder and Chairman of the YPKBI Board of Trustees, Dirgayuza Setiawan, stated that the collaboration with AWS is a strategic step to strengthen teachers’ capacity to face technological developments. “The synergy between the education sector and industry allows educators not only to understand the concept of generative AI but also to develop AI-based projects and gain opportunities for international standard certification,” said Dirgayuza.
A total of 22 teachers participated in the training, which included creating generative AI applications using the PartyRock platform, an AWS service designed to provide a hands-on AI learning experience. The knowledge gained is expected to be passed on to other teachers in their respective schools so that AI literacy can develop sustainably.
Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Viada Hafid, who also serves as Chair of the YPKBI Supervisory Board, assessed that strengthening teacher competence is an important step to ensure that the use of AI expands learning opportunities rather than creating new gaps. “Investment in increasing teacher capacity will have a chain impact on the birth of Indonesia’s digital talent. The government is committed to ensuring that the benefits of AI technology can be accessed equally by all levels of society,” she explained.
One participant, Ahmad Purwanto from SMA Al Hikmah Boarding School, admitted that the training changed his perspective on the use of AI in education. He felt that the experience of building AI applications directly and receiving training from industry practitioners provided relevant skills to be applied in the teaching and learning process.
AWS assessed that collaboration between the government, the education sector, and industry is key to accelerating the development of national digital talent. Through the IndonesiapandAI Programme, the company hopes that access to cloud computing and AI learning in the Indonesian language will become more open, so that more educators can prepare a generation ready to face digital transformation.
