AI Technology Expands into Driving Safety Support Devices
The development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is beginning to expand into vehicle safety support devices, including dashcams such as the one presented by BlackVue through the Elite 10-2CH. At the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026, the dashcam manufacturer incorporated AI technology with an AI Copilot feature integrated into the BlackVue Fleeta supporting application. “Now users can not only record their journeys, but also understand their driving behaviour through analysis that is easy to comprehend and can be directly applied to improve road safety,” said BlackVue Indonesia Marketing Director, Rudy, in an official statement on Thursday. Previously, dashcams only functioned to record journeys as evidence in the event of an accident. Now, the technology has evolved into a device capable of processing driving data and providing analysis to the driver. The AI analyses data such as acceleration patterns, braking, speed, and journey duration before providing explanations and recommendations based on the vehicle’s usage history. This approach demonstrates a shift in the dashcam’s function from a documentation device to a data-based decision support system. The resulting analysis not only helps drivers understand their driving behaviour but also has the potential to be utilised by fleet management companies to improve operational efficiency and safety aspects. In addition to AI analytical capabilities, the development of dashcams is also marked by enhanced safety features. The system will automatically save recordings before and after an incident, ensuring that important events remain documented. A number of devices are also equipped with cloud-based connectivity, enabling remote vehicle monitoring, real-time notifications, automatic recording backups, and vehicle location tracking. The presence of AI in dashcams is one indication that automotive safety technology is no longer solely focused on visual recording, but is beginning to prioritise data analysis as a means of building safer driving habits.
