AI Technology an Opportunity for Crypto Industry to Strengthen Security Systems, Says Practitioner
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A crypto asset practitioner has stated that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology presents an opportunity for the crypto and blockchain industry to strengthen security systems more proactively. William Sutanto, CEO of Indodax, said in Jakarta on Thursday that the pattern of attacks on the blockchain ecosystem is becoming increasingly complex, meaning security systems require innovation to face evolving threats. This complexity was reflected in two hacking incidents in April 2026 targeting Drift Protocol and KelpDAO, resulting in total losses of approximately 577 million US dollars. A TRM Labs report noted that these two incidents accounted for around 76 per cent of the total value of crypto assets stolen up to April 2026. William stated that it is not just the number of attacks that has changed, but also their level of complexity, with cybercriminals becoming more organised and using methods that are difficult to detect with conventional approaches. “Because of this, security systems must also be able to adapt more quickly, and AI is one technology that has great potential to support this effort,” he said in a statement. He added that AI technology is now being utilised as a potential new solution in blockchain security. Unlike traditional audits conducted periodically, AI enables faster smart contract analysis and continuous risk monitoring, allowing potential vulnerabilities to be identified before they escalate into major incidents. William noted that this use of AI is already being adopted by several technology companies, such as Frosty developed by Coinbase and Mythos from Anthropic. According to him, beyond accelerating internal audits and smart contract analysis, this technology can also perform on-chain analysis, monitor changes in protocol behaviour, and identify unusual transaction activity in real time, enabling earlier threat detection. However, William stressed that AI is not a single solution to all security threats in the digital asset and crypto industry. “AI acts as a resource multiplier that accelerates technical detection. However, blockchain security remains a layered ecosystem,” he said. He explained that the foundation lies in regulated governance, independent audits, strict access management, increased user awareness including KYC and security hygiene, and competent human resources capable of making sound decisions. According to William, AI’s current added value lies not only in its ability to speed up analysis processes but also in its capacity for continuous risk monitoring. This approach allows industry players to detect potential threats earlier and accelerate mitigation before incidents escalate. In the future, the measure of blockchain security will no longer be determined solely by how often a system is audited, but also by how quickly it can detect, analyse, and respond to evolving threats. “This is where AI is playing an increasingly important role as a supporter of more adaptive security systems,” he said. In relation to this, William stated that his company is committed to continuously strengthening security standards through the application of technology, governance, and public security education.
