The utilisation of artificial intelligence (AI) opens up opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to strengthen their marketing strategies. Through the Community Partnership Empowerment Programme (PKM) funded by a BIMA grant from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), Universitas Bakrie, via its Institute for Community Service (LPkM), is assisting MSME Galleries Abata in developing the promotion of its batik products.

The assistance includes the use of AI, digital storytelling, video content creation, and QR code integration to support more creative and digital marketing.

This programme is carried out by a team from Universitas Bakrie consisting of Dita Nurmadewi, a lecturer in the Information Systems Study Programme who serves as the team leader, along with Jurica Lucyanda, a lecturer in the Accounting Study Programme, and Zakiul Fahmi Jailani, a lecturer in the Information Systems Study Programme. Students Aulia Febriyanti and Rega Saputra from the Information Systems Study Programme are also involved in the activities.

The mentoring is conducted in stages. It began with a socialisation session on digital storytelling on 19 June 2026 to help participants understand how to convey product values and character through stories. Evaluation results showed the average participant score increased from 58 to 92.

Subsequently, participants attended training on using Google AI Pro for crafting storytelling narratives on 3 July 2026. The average evaluation score rose from 46 to 92. The material covered prompt formulation, idea development, using Google Flow, and creativity in AI storytelling.

On 17 July 2026, the mentoring continued with the creation of storytelling videos based on Google AI Pro. The average participant score increased from 34 to 90. Participants practised formulating prompts, the Hook–Story–Call-to-Action pattern, and the process of creating and processing videos using various digital tools.

The next phase on 7 August 2026 focused on creating QR codes to integrate physical products with storytelling videos. The average score increased from 44 to 80. Participants’ understanding of how to link QR codes with videos rose from 40 per cent to 100 per cent.

Dita Nurmadewi, the head of the Universitas Bakrie PKM team, stated that the use of AI should be positioned as part of the MSME communication strategy, not merely as an introduction to technology.

“We want MSMEs not only to recognise AI as a technology but to be able to use it to tell the story of their product’s advantages, create promotional content, and connect physical products with consumers’ digital experiences,” Dita said.

The series of activities demonstrates that the digitalisation of MSMEs requires a combination of storytelling ability, creativity, and technology utilisation. Digital storytelling is used to build product narratives, AI assists in narrative composition and content production, while QR codes serve as a bridge between physical products and digital information.

Through this programme, Universitas Bakrie connects the competencies of its lecturers and students with the real needs of MSMEs. The mentoring is expected to encourage Galleries Abata to implement the technology independently and sustainably, so that digital storytelling, AI-based video content, and QR codes become part of its promotional strategy and strengthen the competitiveness of MSMEs in the digital space.
