AI Is Not Just Theory, UNM Equips Students with Industry-Demanded Skills
Universitas Nusa Mandiri (UNM), as a Digital Business Campus, held an AI Workshop: From Basic to Real-World Application on Tuesday (9/6) at UNM Margonda Campus, Jl. Margonda Raya No. 545, Pondok Cina, Beji, Depok. The event featured Duwi Cahya Putri Buani, a lecturer, researcher, and competency assessor, as the main speaker.
The workshop was designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of Artificial Intelligence, from basic concepts to real-world applications, including algorithms and the implementation of AI technology to solve various practical problems faced by industries.
The rapid development of AI has transformed how organisations, companies, and educational institutions operate. However, many students still do not understand how AI theory can be applied to create valuable solutions in the workplace. This condition was one of the key reasons for holding a workshop that combines conceptual understanding with direct implementation practice.
During the presentation session, participants were guided to understand the algorithmic foundations that underpin the development of AI-based systems. The material covered the process of problem identification, programming logic formulation, data processing, and the application of AI technology to produce effective, efficient, and relevant solutions for industry needs.
In addition to strengthening technical competence, the workshop encouraged students to develop problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and creativity in applying AI.
The workshop speaker, Duwi Cahya Putri Buani, asserted that mastering AI is now an essential requirement for young people who wish to pursue a career in technology.
"Artificial Intelligence is no longer a future technology but a present-day necessity. Students need to understand that AI is not just theory or algorithms, but a tool that can be used to solve real problems across various sectors. The earlier students grasp its concepts and implementation, the greater their chances of adapting to the evolving needs of the industry," she said.
She emphasised the importance of learning that integrates theory and practice so that students can produce truly applicable solutions.
"The industrial world needs talent who not only understand concepts but are also capable of implementing technology into products or services that provide benefits. Therefore, practical experience like this workshop is very important to build students’ readiness to face the professional world," said Duwi.
The Head of the Information Systems Study Programme at UNM, Sukmawati Anggraeni Putri, appreciated the students’ enthusiasm in participating in the activity. According to her, the AI workshop is part of UNM’s efforts to provide learning aligned with global technological developments.
"As a Digital Business Campus, Universitas Nusa Mandiri continues to strive to deliver learning experiences relevant to industry needs. This workshop provides an opportunity for students to understand how Artificial Intelligence is applied in the real world, while developing competencies that are highly needed in the digital transformation era," she said.
She added that skills in the field of AI will become one of the strategic competencies that can enhance the competitiveness of graduates in the future.
"We want students not only to be technology users but also to become innovators who create technology-based solutions. Through various seminars, workshops, and competency development programmes, we are committed to equipping students with skills that can answer the challenges of the digital industry," she said.
The activity was interactive, with active participation from students discussing AI trends, career opportunities in artificial intelligence, and the implementation of the technology in various industrial sectors.
The holding of this workshop confirms the commitment of Universitas Nusa Mandiri as a Digital Business Campus to creating an innovative, adaptive learning ecosystem oriented towards the needs of the workforce. Through various digital competency strengthening programmes, UNM continues to encourage students to be ready to face the era of technological transformation and become superior talent capable of competing at both national and global levels.
