Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria stated that the development of artificial intelligence in Indonesia must provide real benefits for national development through technology transfer and the strengthening of human resource capacity. In a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday, Nezar said that synergy between local talent and global expertise forms a crucial foundation for accelerating digital transformation whilst realising the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. “This collaboration is very important, firstly, for technology transfer infrastructure, secondly, for capacity building, and thirdly, for sustainable progress,” Nezar said. According to him, Indonesia possesses strong capital to play an important role in the global AI economy through its demographic bonus, a continuously growing digital economy, and a commitment to sustainable long-term development. “With a strong demographic dividend, a dynamic and growing digital economy, and a steadfast commitment to long-term development, we are not just a market, but also a centre of innovation, talent, and strategic investment,” Nezar said. He emphasised that AI development must be oriented towards human interests and deliver benefits that can be widely felt by society. This principle forms the foundation of national AI development, including through an AI Centre of Excellence built through strategic collaboration between the government and industry partners to strengthen AI competitiveness, drive digital sovereignty, and broaden access to technology utilisation across various sectors. “AI must be a driver of progress, a development partner, and a tool that uplifts every layer of our society. And this is the essence of AI for good,” Nezar said. Nezar assessed that such collaboration enables Indonesia not only to adopt technology but also to develop it into a source of new economic value that supports national development priorities. “When global expertise meets Indonesian intelligence, we do more than just adopt technology. We adapt it, we innovate upon it, and we create new sources of economic value,” he said.
