AI Implementation in SMK3 and PSM Key to Enhancing Workplace Safety
Occupational health and safety expert Dr. Masjuli, M.K.K.K., emphasised the importance of applying artificial intelligence (AI) as a key measure to enhance workplace safety. In his official statement on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Organising Committee and initiator of the National Seminar titled ‘The Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Supporting the Implementation of SMK3 and Process Safety Management (PSM)’ stated that AI usage in modern industry is no longer just a trend or option but an absolute necessity for companies. The committee has committed to quickly translating the seminar’s conclusions into tactical recommendations for industries, particularly high-risk sectors, to accelerate the standardisation of AI-based occupational health and safety. He added that digital technology has proven effective in streamlining real-time incident reporting to protect the company’s most valuable asset – worker safety – and that the seminar could be a starting point to raise awareness among participants and stakeholders about technology’s role in enhancing workplace safety. CEO of Majalah Katiga, Sudirgo Dhj, stated his commitment to widely promoting K3 digital literacy through all Katiga media platforms to ensure the seminar’s strategic insights have tangible impacts across the entire national industry. Meanwhile, Deputy Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Dr. Ir. Taufik Adityawarman M.M.PMP.IPU, explained that AI has remarkable capabilities in predictive safety to detect data anomalies before accidents or process failures occur. However, he stressed that the key remains the role of humans, no matter how advanced the technology. ‘While investment in AI technology is necessary, when considering its impact and outcomes, especially in terms of safety and business, the investment cannot be viewed solely in monetary terms,’ he said.
