AI-Generated Social Media Content Rampant, Study Reveals Shocking Figures
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The use of AI has now spread to almost every aspect of human life, including social media.
A study has revealed that many users rely on AI assistance for posts on their accounts.
The finding came from a study by Pangram, as reported by 404 Media. Researchers used a Chrome extension to collect a sample of around one million posts over two months across various platforms, including LinkedIn, X, Reddit, Substack and Medium.
The study found that fully AI-generated writing was most prevalent on LinkedIn, at 41%, as quoted by AI Weekly on Monday (13 July 2026).
It was not only LinkedIn; X showed a similar pattern. Some 25% of its content was fully AI-generated, with a further 23% produced with the help of the technology.
Meanwhile, Reddit and Substack each recorded 10% for long-form AI-generated content.
The report also touched on differences in AI usage across each platform. LinkedIn, ranked first, provides AI writing-assistant tools.
By contrast, Reddit has no such feature. The platform has run campaigns emphasising human users.
The study did add a caveat, however: the figures presented may represent a lower bound, because people who use AI-detection extensions cannot be treated as a random sample of internet users.
