AI Data Centre in Batang Under Development, with a Capacity of 240 Megawatts
SEMARANG — Central Java Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP) head Johan Hadiyanto said plans to build an artificial intelligence (AI) data centre at the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate (KITB) were still progressing. The facility is expected to have a capacity of 240 megawatts.
“The data centre at KITB is still at the development stage and is not yet operational,” Johan told a press conference at his office in Semarang on Monday (26 October 2026).
He added that assessments related to the proposed AI data centre were being carried out in stages. “If you ask whether it has been built there, it is currently in process. As for capacity, it is not one gigawatt; it is only 240 megawatts,” he said.
Johan said there was no need to be concerned about the plan, as the infrastructure would be built in an industrial estate and special economic zone.
“If it is in an industrial estate and special economic zone, then resources have already been taken into account in terms of feasibility, permits and so on. I think the resources in the special economic zone have been considered,” he said.
Johan said the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs would provide more detailed information about the proposed data centre at KITB in November. “There will be an official announcement in November from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Batang Special Economic Zone,” he said.
Earlier, Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi said land required for the AI data centre at KITB had been set aside. However, he said the project was still under assessment.
“The Batang AI data centre is still being assessed. But, in principle, we have prepared the site,” Luthfi said in an interview at the Gradhika Bhakti Praja building in Semarang on Monday (19 October 2026).
He said KITB had sufficient land for the proposed AI data centre. “If it needs 58 hectares, that is available. Two hectares are available, and one hectare is available. Everything is ready,” Luthfi said.
