AI Data Centre Construction Halted, KDM Cites Strict Enforcement of Regulations
Jakarta, VIVA – West Java Governor Dedi Muly ดังนั้น Mulyadi has emphasised the halt of artificial intelligence (AI) based data centre construction in the Jatiluhur area, West Java, as an effort to enforce regulations.
Furthermore, the Governor, affectionately known as Kang Dedi Mulyadi or KDM, stated that the suspension is also intended to protect the interests of the community.
“When I asked yesterday, the Building Permit (IMB) had not been issued. Has the Environmental Impact Assessment (AMDAL) been released? Not yet. So, I said do not proceed with the construction yet. Since the permit has not been issued. Where is the error? With the Purwakarta Local Government? No. The error lies with the consultants, who had not even submitted the data by the time I arrived,” he said in Bandung on Friday (2/10/2026).
KDM asserted that the policy was taken appropriately within the authority of the province or regency. The Environmental Impact Assessment (AMDAL) permit falls under the authority of the local Environmental Agency.
Nevertheless, KDM stated that the government always remains fair and objective in policymaking. As part of this, he has requested academics from the University of Indonesia to represent the West Java Provincial Government in providing feedback and input regarding the AI data centre construction.
“Personally, if objectively the AMDAL passes, I have no problem with it proceeding. If the AMDAL says it is not permitted, I also have no problem with it being halted. However, one note: the residents of Purwakarta who sacrifice for the interests of Jatiluhur must have access to water. It must not be disrupted,” he insisted.
Water supply remains sufficient
KDM added that the water requirements for BDx, should it begin operations, can be met from the Jatiluhur Reservoir. The water is drawn from the portion allocated to the Purwakarta Regency Regional Water Utility Company (PDAM), which receives an allocation of 3,000 litres per second.
“PDAM is allocated 3,000 litres per second. For decades, only 380 litres per second has been used, which is only 11% of the allocated quota. If only 11% of the 100% allocation is used, it means 89% of the water is not being utilised by PDAM. Now, an additional 14% is being used by the company. Is there still a shortage? No, there is a surplus. It is simple,” he asserted.
Previously, KDM visited the AI data centre in the Jatiluhur area on Tuesday (28/7/2026). His visit aimed to ensure that the investment, valued at Rp3.5 trillion, is situated on land safe from floods, earthquakes, and volcanic activity. Additionally, KDM ensured that the water and electricity requirements for the AI data centre’s operations would be sufficiently met.
