AI Becomes Novo Nordisk's Mainstay to Accelerate Drug Development
Novo Nordisk is partnering with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) technology to accelerate the drug discovery and development process, ranging from identifying therapeutic targets to clinical trials. This strategic partnership also includes the use of cloud technology to modernise Novo Nordisk’s operations. As part of this partnership, Novo Nordisk and AWS have established a co-innovation hub in London.
At the centre of this collaboration, engineers and scientists from both companies will utilise AWS AI technology to process Novo Nordisk’s data and insights. This effort aims to shorten the process from identifying therapeutic targets to administering the first dose to humans.
“Partnering with AWS is a step towards making AI the driver of innovation at Novo Nordisk,” said Mike Doustdar, President and CEO of Novo Nordisk, in a statement on Tuesday (1/9/2026).
Novo Nordisk has designated AWS as its preferred cloud provider and strategic AI partner. The partnership combines Novo Nordisk’s expertise in chronic disease therapies with AWS’s cloud and AI services, secure and scalable infrastructure, and life sciences technology.
Novo Nordisk noted that it has already seen measurable results from the collaboration. These include a reduction in the time required for clinical documentation and the empowerment of over 25,000 employees to increase productivity.
This new agreement is built upon a long-standing relationship between the two companies. The partnership will also create a secure foundation to drive various ideas into new therapies for patients worldwide.
“By combining our scientific expertise with various specialised AWS tools and services designed for the life sciences industry, and by establishing a dedicated co-innovation hub at our existing facilities in London, we are accelerating the discovery process and developing responsible AI solutions to create real progress for people living with serious chronic diseases,” he added.
