AI-Based Family Companion Robot Makes Debut at WRC 2026
An AI-based family companion robot featuring embodied intelligence, named Mobo, has been introduced to the public at the World Robot Conference (WRC) 2026. The robot is designed to interact with family members, understand the home environment, remember user habits, and assist with various daily activities.
In its debut appearance, Mobo was not merely displayed statically. The robot moved around the exhibition area alongside Argos, a four-legged robot dog, and performed dance moves to encourage interaction from visitors, including children.
Mobo was developed by AiMOGA Robotics, an AI-based robotics company that maintains a strategic partnership with Chery. The company stated that the robot was developed as a home companion that does not merely receive commands, but is also capable of recognising people, understanding environments, analysing situations, and determining actions.
Zhang Guibing, President of AiMOGA Robotics, stated that the company is striving to expand the use of robots from public services into domestic environments. According to him, embodied intelligence technology needs to be developed to become more user-friendly and accessible to the public.
“AiMOGA continues to build public understanding and trust through the application of robots in various public service scenarios. We are also continuously refining our products and developing intelligent robots for home environments that are easy to use and affordable,” Zhang said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Friday (28/8/2026).
He noted that this development is aimed at making it easier for the public to recognise and utilise embodied intelligence. He expressed hope that artificial intelligence technology could become part of daily activities, rather than being limited to industrial environments or specialised facilities.
Home environments possess different characteristics compared to industrial areas, which generally utilise structured and relatively fixed processes. The presence of residents, changes in spatial layout, and varying needs over time require domestic robots to possess higher levels of adaptability.
To perform these functions, Mobo is equipped with a Vision Language Model (VML) that integrates visual and audio information. This technology is used to help the robot recognise objects, humans, and environmental conditions within the home.
The robot also utilises an agent-based task planning system. The company stated that this technology allows Mobo to break down user needs into a series of tasks before executing them autonomously.
Mobo also possesses long-term memory capabilities. This feature is designed to store interaction histories and learn the preferences of family members so that the robot can increasingly adapt to household routines.
This capability is part of an effort to develop robots that understand more than just a single instruction. AiMOGA aims for robots to be able to learn activity patterns and understand the dynamics occurring within a family.
In daily use, Mobo is said to be able to assist with scheduling, planning activities, and providing reminders. The robot can also remind family members to take medication or help users monitor home conditions remotely via an application.
For the elderly, the robot is intended to serve as a companion that can be interacted with and provide reminders for daily activities. For children, Mobo offers language-based interaction, learning, and interactive entertainment.
