AHY Wants Democratic Party's Voice to Match Gerindra by 2029

JAKARTA — Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), chairman of the Democratic Party, quipped about his party’s target vote in the 2029 election, saying he hopes the Democratic vote will not be any weaker than Gerindra’s. He said this while delivering a speech at a Democratic iftar at the Fairmont hotel in Jakarta on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. ‘I want to express appreciation, of course, to the Chairman of the Democratic Party faction in the DPR RI who is also Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI, along with all members of the DPR RI. Where are their voices?’ AHY said. ‘Sir Foreign Minister Sugiono (also the General Secretary of Gerindra), hopefully by 2029 their votes will be stronger here, Sir. Although Gerindra will certainly be very strong, we must not let the Democratic voice be too weak by 2029,’ he added.

Present at the Democratic iftar were the former sixth President of Indonesia and Chairman of the Democratic Party’s High Council Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the Speaker of the DPR RI Puan Maharani, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and several ambassadors from friendly countries to Indonesia.

According to the results, PDI-P secured 25,387,279 votes out of 84 electoral districts (dapil). The following are the DPR RI legislative election results announced by the General Elections Commission (KPU RI) on Wednesday night:

1. PDI-P: 25,387,279 (16.72%)

2. Golkar: 23,208,654 (15.29%)

3. Gerindra: 20,071,708 (13.22%)

4. PKB: 16,115,655 (10.62%)

5. Nasdem: 14,660,516 (9.66%)

6. PKS: 12,781,353 (8.42%)
