AHY Urges Democrat Party Cadres to Win the Hearts and Minds of the People Before the Election
JAKARTA - The General Chairman of the Democrat Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), urged all cadres to first win the hearts and minds of the people before achieving victory in the general election (pemilu).
The message was delivered by AHY virtually at the Fifth Regional Deliberation (Musda) V of the Democrat Party in South Sumatra Province, held at the Aryaduta Palembang Hotel on Thursday (30/4/2026).
According to AHY, political victory cannot be attained instantly.
“The most essential goal of politics is to win the general election and secure the people’s votes. But before that, win their hearts and minds. Winning the heart and mind of the people is a necessity, and we must start doing it now,” said AHY in his statement on Saturday (2/5/2026).
AHY also emphasised that party consolidation is the main foundation in building political strength.
Consolidation, he said, must be continuously maintained at all levels of the organisation, not just during Musda moments.
“Party consolidation is a fundamental strategic step that we must safeguard not only during Musda, but every time,” he stated.
At the Musda, AHY called on all cadres from the central to grassroots levels to remain in one line.
He asserted that the party’s strength does not only rely on national leadership, but also on the solidity of regional structures.
“I am responsible for leading nationally at the central level, but in the DPD, DPC, to PAC, branches and sub-branches, including grassroots cadres, all must be solid in one line,” he emphasised.
On that occasion, AHY also appreciated the presence of the Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru.
Several Democrat Party DPP officials attended the event, including General Secretary Herman Khaeron, Head of the Strategic Communication Agency Herzaky Mahendra Putra, as well as Chairman of the South Sumatra Democrat Party DPD Cik Ujang along with his ranks and the Chairmen of DPCs throughout South Sumatra.
