Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has pledged to personally oversee the revitalisation process of schools across Indonesia. AHY stated he will check for obstacles hindering progress on the ground.

“I will try to directly monitor any obstacles related to the progress in the field,” AHY said in the GBK area, Jakarta, on Sunday (26/7/2026).

AHY emphasised the need to ensure that all schools in Indonesia are fit for purpose. He noted that this effort aims to improve the quality of human resources by providing better facilities and support for teaching and learning activities.

“The Ministry of Public Works is at the forefront, together with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. For the ‘Sekolah Rakyat’ programme, it is the Ministry of Social Affairs,” he explained. “The bottom line is we want to ensure that all schools are increasingly fit for purpose, with proper facilities and support for teaching and learning activities, so our children can focus.”

AHY acknowledged that there are priorities set for each region but assured that the government will continue to oversee the renovation of schools in all areas. His statement follows recent public attention on severely damaged school buildings, including an elementary school in Tanggirejo, Grobogan Regency, Central Java, and another in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, which had been in a state of disrepair for two years.
