AHY to Gerindra: We Can Synergise and Collaborate
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), the Chairman of the Democratic Party, said that his party could synergise and collaborate with the Gerindra Party led by Prabowo Subianto. The invitation was made by AHY at a Democratic Party iftar gathering that was also attended by Gerindra Secretary-General Sugiono at the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta, on Wednesday night (4 March 2026).
“I think we can synergise and collaborate certainly with other parties,” AHY said in his address at the event on Wednesday.
“The DNA of the Democratic Party bears many similarities with the Gerindra Party,” AHY added.
On the occasion, AHY also stated that all elements of the Democratic Party would descend to the people more often.
However, he requested that Demokrat’s efforts not be misinterpreted as a political manoeuvre by Prabowo.
“The Foreign Minister, who is also Gerindra’s Secretary-General, please report to the President as the coalition’s patron, and as the patron of political parties. If the Democrats this year are somewhat more frequently going down to the ground due to the 25-year spirit, please do not interpret this as a political manoeuvre because the election is still a long way off. And we want to focus truly on safeguarding the government of President Prabowo Subianto,” AHY said.
Over a quarter of a century, AHY noted that the Democratic Party had endured various dynamics, from highs to lows.
“In a political party’s journey, 25 years are certainly full of ups and downs, sweat and tears. Demokrat has also experienced all of that,” AHY said.
AHY also urged all cadres to make the 25-year milestone a moment of reinvention or rediscovering the party’s identity as a political force that champions the hopes and aspirations of the people.
“That’s our objective, nothing else. But it’s acceptable if we have an effort so that Demokrat is not always at the periphery. In parliament we have already been at the periphery, sir. We used to be at the far end there; now we are at the far end here. So when in plenary session, right? Let’s not end up pressed against the wall. We want to become solid again, stronger,” AHY said.
