According to him, greening in toll road areas also enhances aesthetics and comfort for road users. This was stated by AHY during the tree-planting activity in the Prambanan-Purwomartani toll corridor, Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta, as part of the national movement for the development of Green and Blue Open Spaces (RTHB) on the occasion of Earth Day.

“We do not want development to merely consist of inanimate objects, but it must be able to present a healthy, clean, and beautiful ecosystem,” said AHY in a written statement on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

He added that utilising road-owned spaces for greening serves as a concrete solution amid land limitations and the high demand for urban development. Therefore, collaboration between the government, universities, and the business world is deemed essential to ensure that the development of green corridors is sustainable and based on scientific studies.

AHY emphasised that efforts to address the climate crisis cannot stop at mere discourse. Integrated, consistent policies are needed, realised through concrete actions on the ground.

“Net zero emissions must not just be a slogan. There must be tangible steps that can be felt,” said AHY.

In addition, AHY reminded that the development of green open spaces is mandated by the Spatial Planning Law, where every region is targeted to have at least 30 percent green open space. The government continues to encourage various breakthroughs to achieve this target gradually.

“In accordance with the mandate of the Spatial Planning Law, we continue to strive to meet the minimum target of 30 percent green open space in every region,” he concluded.
