Sleman (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono stated that the revitalisation of the slum area in Mrican, Caturtunggal, Depok, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, can serve as a model for other cities in Indonesia.

“I visited the Mrican area in Sleman yesterday afternoon (Friday, 24/4), and the slum revitalisation there can become a model for slum revitalisation in other cities in Indonesia,” said Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, or AHY as he is popularly known, when meeting Deputy Regent of Sleman Danang Maharsa during the tree-planting activity for the Green Corridor of the Prambanan-Purwomartani Toll Road section, Sleman, on Saturday.

Previously, AHY and his entourage inspected the results of the revitalisation of the area, which was formerly a slum, now transformed into a clean and neatly arranged area.

The five-hectare area along the Gajahwong River now also features a representative “Gatotkaca” Public Open Space for various activities.

AHY appreciated the revitalisation of the Mrican slum area, which has now become very green.

He also appreciated the 3M concept (Mundur, Munggah, Madhep Kali) initiated by the Sleman Regency Government to manage riverbank areas.

AHY also inspected the Condongcatur Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST). This community-based waste management facility can process 8 to 10 tonnes of waste per day into RDF, fertiliser, and other necessities.

On that occasion, Sleman Regent Harda Kiswaya stated that the Sleman Regency Government is committed to transforming slum areas into functional public spaces. He is also continuing to encourage the expansion of slum revitalisation in Sleman through collaboration with various parties to improve the quality of life of residents in the area.

“Thus, it is hoped that the quality of life of the community will improve, their health will improve, and they will be more prosperous,” he said.
