AHY says Prabowo has discussed worst‑case scenarios of the US–Israel–Iran conflict
JAKARTA — Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), chairman of the Democratic Party, said President Prabowo Subianto has discussed a range of worst‑case scenarios regarding the potential impacts of the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran on Indonesia. According to AHY, the discussions took place during a meeting chaired by President Prabowo with a number of national figures at Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, on Tuesday night, 3 March 2026. ‘Please allow us, on this good occasion, we, the extended family of the Democratic Party, to ask the Foreign Minister to convey our thanks to Mr President Prabowo Subianto for convening the meeting at Istana Merdeka last night until late,’ AHY said at the Democratic Party’s iftar gathering at the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta, on Wednesday evening, 4 March 2026. AHY said the government indeed needs to prepare anticipatory steps against various risks that could arise from the conflict. He also praised President Prabowo and the administration, particularly the Foreign Minister, for seeking solutions to promote peace in the Middle East. ‘And we must prepare ourselves to anticipate and mitigate all risks that may come, particularly in the economic realm, energy resilience, and also food security,’ AHY said. AHY hoped that various parties would continue to push for dialogue and de‑escalation to achieve a peaceful settlement. He believes every conflict can be resolved through communication and goodwill. ‘Of course this is not easy. But when there’s a will, there’s a way. I think it’s not impossible either. God always provides a path for those who strive earnestly,’ he explained. ‘There are no differences that cannot be bridged if humanity is placed above all else,’ AHY said. Earlier reports stated that President Prabowo Subianto had gathered former presidents and vice presidents, former foreign ministers, and the chairs of parliament parties at Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. The meeting, lasting about 3.5 hours, was attended by President Joko Widodo and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono; Vice Presidents Jusuf Kalla (10th and 12th), Boediono (11th), and Ma’ruf Amin (13th). Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and the Red and White Cabinet also attended. Sugiono stressed that the President had asked Indonesia to be prepared for a range of possibilities arising from global dynamics, particularly the Middle East conflict. In relation to the situation, Sugiono said the government had also instructed Indonesia’s ambassador in Tehran to prepare evacuation steps if Indonesian citizens desired them.
