AHY Reveals Bekasi-Cikarang Railway Line Could Return to Normal Tonight
Bekasi, CNBC Indonesia - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), hopes that the handling of the train accident at Bekasi Timur Station can be completed this afternoon to evening.
AHY hopes that the evacuation of the KRL wreckage, track normalisation, signalling, and overhead catenary electrical system can return to normal around 5:00 PM WIB.
“Earlier I received an explanation from the KAI team; actually, it is hoped that around 4:00 PM WIB to 5:00 PM WIB today, normalisation can be achieved, and tonight train services can resume normally,” said AHY at Bekasi Timur Station on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
However, based on the current conditions, the process of evacuating the KRL wreckage and normalising the Bekasi-Cikarang line is estimated not to be completed in the afternoon.
“But yes, we see that the process still requires all efforts; earlier I saw many workers already carrying out or in the midst of this recovery process, but hopefully this afternoon or tonight it can be normalised,” he explained.
Separately, KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, said that they are currently focusing on the evacuation process and recovery of affected facilities and infrastructure.
However, KAI is endeavouring to have KRL services reach Cikarang again tomorrow.
“But we are trying to complete it today (evacuation) so that tomorrow it can run normally again,” said Anne at Bekasi Timur Station, West Java, on Tuesday (28/4).
Anne explained that up to now, KRL journeys can only proceed as far as Bekasi Station. Meanwhile, Bekasi Timur Station remains temporarily closed as it is the incident handling point.
According to her, this operational restriction is due to the power supply on that line having been switched off to support the evacuation process.
In addition, KAI is still conducting a thorough inspection of facilities, infrastructure, and other supporting systems before services return to normal.
“After that, we check the infrastructure, then the electricity. So the electricity was turned off, meaning KRL can only go to Bekasi Station,” she said.
As of 2:47 PM WIB, the KRL wreckage evacuation process is still ongoing. Based on observations at the site, the bogie or wheels of the KRL have started to be lifted onto a flatcar. Meanwhile, the KRL body is still at the side of the tracks towards Cikarang.
