AHY Recalls Second Son While Relating Prophet Ibrahim's Story to Demokrat Cadres
Democratic Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) recalled his second son, Arjuna Hanyokrokusumo Yudhoyono, while recounting the story of Prophet Ibrahim. AHY admitted he could not fathom the immense difficulty Prophet Ibrahim faced in waiting so long for the birth of Prophet Ismail, only to be commanded to sacrifice him.
This was stated by AHY during his speech at the Democratic Party’s Central Executive Council (DPP) in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. Initially, AHY referenced the sermon message from the 1447 Hijriah Eid al-Adha prayer regarding obedience and piety, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim’s story.
“Almost certainly, the conclusion is that Eid al-Adha embodies a profoundly noble and meaningful value—a direct vertical line of obedience and piety. The stories of Prophet Ibrahim, Prophet Ismail, and Siti Hajar will forever be integral to Eid al-Adha commemorations worldwide,” AHY said.
AHY stated that the sacrifice in Prophet Ibrahim’s story offers an extraordinary lesson for humanity, one that is unimaginable due to the absolute prioritisation of obedience above all else.
“And while we have known this story since childhood, each time a preacher recounts it, the magnitude of the sacrifice—placing obedience and submission to God’s command above everything—is incomprehensible for ordinary humans. That is why Prophet Ibrahim and Ismail were chosen,” he said.
AHY imagined the immense hardship of sacrificing a long-awaited child, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience. He admitted he could not conceive of such a scenario, having recently welcomed his second son.
“After yearning for a son for years, only for him to be born and then commanded to be sacrificed? It is unimaginably difficult—especially as I have just welcomed another baby. The thought of waiting so long, only to be told to sacrifice him to test our loyalty and piety to the One Creator is beyond comprehension. Yet both Ibrahim and Ismail submitted willingly,” AHY said.
“This is an order that is not easy to comply with in any context,” he added.
AHY stated that the command in Prophet Ibrahim’s story now serves as a directive for all humanity to continually enhance piety, care, and sharing. This compassion, he said, is also reflected in the Democratic Party’s distribution of sacrificial animals during Eid al-Adha.
“This is the spirit of the Democratic Party. We want Demokrat to have greater meaning by providing sacrificial animals distributed to those in need. It is a fundamental act—those who can share with those less fortunate,” he said.
AHY added that Demokrat fights for the people not only through distributing sacrificial meat but also by advocating for policies, laws, and legislative products that support the public. He also championed efforts to maintain harmony with nature.
“This is Demokrat’s struggle in every forum we attend—we strongly advocate for Prosperity and Sustainability. Our environment belongs to our descendants, future generations. Therefore, we must protect it diligently,” he added.
Furthermore, AHY addressed the progress of the DPP building construction. He hopes the building will serve as a home for all Demokrat cadres.
“But this is our collective effort. I report to the cadres, from us for us. Insha’Allah, it will become a more dignified and beneficial home for cadres and the wider community if completed this year,” he concluded.
