Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) is pushing for strengthened cross-sectoral synergy in infrastructure development to accelerate the growth of the national battery industry ecosystem.

AHY conveyed this message during a meeting with the National Battery Research Institute (NBRI) at the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure office on Monday (13/4).

The meeting discussed plans for the Indonesia Battery Summit (IBS) 2026, as well as strengthening strategic collaboration between the government, research institutions, and industry players to support the energy transition and electric vehicle development in Indonesia.

The audience was led by NBRI Founder Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Evvy Kartini, along with NBRI officials and representatives from ID Battery/IBC. On that occasion, NBRI outlined the concept for IBS 2026 and collaboration opportunities to align the agenda with national development priorities.

AHY welcomed the initiative positively. He emphasised the importance of integrated policy orchestration to support the battery and electric vehicle industries.

“Infrastructure has a broad scope and serves as the foundation for various sectors, including battery and electric vehicle development. We are ready to orchestrate policies and programmes to ensure they are integrated and deliver maximum impact for society,” said Coordinating Minister AHY in a written statement on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

He stated that strengthening the energy sector, particularly the transition to new renewable energy and transport electrification, is a government priority in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives. According to him, the transport sector is a significant contributor to carbon emissions, making battery-based electric vehicle development a strategic step towards achieving net zero emissions by 2060.

In addition, AHY highlighted the importance of industrial downstreaming and increasing the value added of Indonesia’s strategic mineral resources.

“We have abundant critical mineral resources. The challenge is how to process them into high-value-added products through research and innovation, thereby creating jobs and strengthening national industry competitiveness,” he asserted.

Furthermore, he explained that the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure coordinates several strategic ministries, from agrarian affairs and spatial planning, public works, housing and settlements, to transportation. All these sectors, he said, are closely linked to the battery industry ecosystem development from upstream to downstream.

This meeting also served as an opportunity to align the IBS 2026 agenda with national development policies, particularly in supporting industrialisation, transport sector decarbonisation, and national electric vehicle development.

In closing the meeting, AHY reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue strengthening collaboration with all stakeholders.

“We are open to working together and ensuring that every initiative aligns with the direction of national development. This is a great opportunity that must be optimised,” he concluded.
