Batam, BeritaSatu.com — Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) reaffirmed the government’s commitment to driving Batam forward as an economic gateway for the Southeast Asian region and the world. He described the momentum of Lunar New Year 2577 as a symbol of renewed spirit for strengthening development, particularly in the infrastructure and economic sectors.

In his address at Swiss-Belhotel Harbour Bay, Batam, on Monday (16/2/2026), AHY expressed his hope that the spirit of the Year of the Fire Horse would serve as collective energy to continue national development.

“Hopefully in the Year of the Fire Horse we all possess strong energy, courage, and a blazing spirit to continue the nation’s development, including infrastructure development,” AHY said.

AHY stressed that under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, the government is focused on strengthening the foundations of the national economy. Batam is regarded as holding a strategic position as a growth node directly connected to international trade routes.

“Currently, under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, we want to build the economy. Batam itself continues to serve as a laboratory and a gateway for the economy at the Southeast Asian and global level,” he said.

According to AHY, Batam’s development must remain consistent with its original design as a zone for industry, trade, and investment. He emphasised the importance of policy stewardship to ensure that economic transformation proceeds sustainably.

“Hopefully, in keeping with the founding spirit of Batam, we can truly continue to safeguard it so that its economic sector, business, and tourism continue to advance and develop for shared prosperity,” he said.

AHY expressed hope that progress in the economic and infrastructure sectors would have a direct impact on public welfare. The government wants to ensure that Batam’s growth is inclusive and felt by all residents.

“And of course, we hope that the people of Batam will also become increasingly prosperous,” he concluded.
